Hi fellow parents!

Introducing solids to your baby? I understand — it’s fun but a bit daunting at the beginning. The good news? Preparing baby food from home is far easier than it’s made out to be. You don’t require special machines or spending hours in the kitchen. Just some fresh ingredients, a blender, and voilà — you’ve got healthy, delicious purees your child will adore.

Let’s make it simple, quick, and delicious — because we’ve all got enough on our plates (pun intended).

Why Make Baby Food at Home?

Honestly, there are a bunch of reasons:

  • You know exactly what’s going in — no hidden sugars or preservatives.
  • It’s kinder on your wallet — those tiny baby food jars can really add up fast!
  • You can experiment with all sorts of combos and make them into what your baby loves.

And also, it kinda feels great to say, “Yep, I made that!”

What You’ll Need

  • No worries — you likely already have most of these:
  • A blender or food processor works great — even that trusty hand blender hiding in your drawer can do the trick!
  • A saucepan or steamer
  • Ice cube tray or small containers (for freezing or servings)
  • And of course, some fruits, veggies, and baby love

Easy Baby Food Purees to Make

1. Sweet Potato Puree

  • This is a winner.
  • Whiz it up with a splash of water or breast milk — whatever your little one’s accustomed and prefers!

Why it’s awesome: Velvety, sweet, and chock-full of beta-carotene (good for those little peepers!).

2. Apple & Pear Puree

  • Easy, soft, and sweet.
  • How to: Peel and chop, steam until soft (about 10 mins), then whizz up.
  • Bonus: No added sugar — nature’s candy!

3. Carrot & Pea Puree

  • Bright and bursting with goodness.
  • How to: Steam chopped peas and carrots together, then puree until smooth.
  • Pro tip: Add a little bit of cooking water to achieve the perfect texture.

4. Banana + Avocado Mash

No need for cooking — yes, please!

  • How to: Just mash together with a fork or give it a quick blend.
  • So good: Healthy fats, potassium, and silky smooth.

5. Oats & Mango Puree

Yummy for breakfast!

  • How to: oat (only a spoonful or two), then mix with ripe chunks of mango.
  • Why baby loves it: It’s naturally sweet and super filling.

 Storing Leftovers Like a Pro

  • Spoon any leftover puree into ice cube trays and freeze them — really convenient for future meals!.
  • Once frozen, place the cubes in a zip-top bag and mark.
  • When it’s mealtime, grab a cube or two and warm it up.

Easy peasy. And you’ve got meals ready in seconds.

A Few Quick Tips

  • Always let your puree cool a bit before feeding.
  • For the littlest eaters (around 6 months), stick with silky-smooth textures to help them ease into solids gently.
  • Try one new food at a time, just in case of allergies.
  • Don’t stress if the baby makes faces — it’s all part of the adventure!

That’s it! Homemade baby food doesn’t have to be fancy. With a little prep time, you can serve fresh, healthy meals chock full of love (and nutrients). And hey, if things get a little messy along the way — that’s just part of the magic (and the memories)!
